Disciplines - Introduction

Death’s first creation, the Spirit borne Gethsemoni, was fashioned from raw Flesh, her mind coalesced from the collective subconscious of humanity, and as such, her form echoes the expectations of the living. Beautiful and flawless to behold, this resident of the shadow realm glimmers like a jewel in the darkness. But be warned – the Queen of the Dead’s countenance is naught but a distraction. Her mercurial mood and unfettered ambitions make her a dangerous and volatile player in Death’s Court, one whose loyalty to her king is often questioned… but only in the most terrified of whispers.

The Queen of the Dead serves a dual purpose within the Court – as regent, she rules in Death’s stead during her master’s long absences. Most denizens of the Underworld would be satiated with that degree of authority, but not so with Death’s first borne. As the reigning governor of the faction of Flesh, Gethsemoni holds a level of power and influence unrivaled by any other faction. For the Queen’s touch can be seen in most every creation of the Underworld. And of those creations that turn to the faction of Flesh, there can be no doubt of their loyalty – for it is absolute and unwavering.

Kier - Valkyrie of the Dead

Valkyrie of the Dead

It is true that Gethsemoni dislikes General Kier, in no small part due to Kier’s position as leader of the faction of Spirit. But the resentment that boils within Gethsemoni stems from a more primal source, for Kier stands at Death’s side as would a daughter – a child conceived during Death’s isolation, and raised from unlife solely by Death’s will. The creation of new life within the realm is a practice that Gethsemoni typically oversees. Consequently, Kier is one of the few denizens of the Underworld whose life-force does not connect back to the Queen of the Dead, and yet Death expects Gethsemoni to help shape and guide the fallen Valkyrie as if she were one of the Queen’s own.

Xiall - The Great Osteomancer

The Great Osteomancer

It is often said that one can best be judged by the quality of their enemies. If true, there is no higher compliment to the Queen of the Dead than that of her long standing rivalry with Chancellor Xiall of the faction of Bone. These adversaries stand diametrically opposed, each one representing everything the other despises. As such, the silent conflicts of court intrigue are waged between these two with a truly ferocious intensity. Over and over again, the Chancellor of Bone sees her calculated machinations turned to dust against the chaotic power of Gethsemoni… but it does not deter Xiall. No… for Bone is forever. It endures and it persists while all others fall. That is the quality of enemy Gethsemoni has found within this rival – an enemy that is forever.
