#FanFriday: Darko Stipic Composes Court of the Dead Soundtrack

Human creativity manifests itself in many mediums. Whether it’s through the written word, 2D art, sculptural works, fashion, or even the intangible and yet instantly impactful form of music, mortals express themselves.

Today, we’re diving into the vision of the Spirit Faction etheriasti, Darko Stipic, a mourner with a knack for twisting ethereal vibrations into carefully crafted melodies suited for none other than the Court of the Dead itself.

We connected with Darko and asked him a few questions.

How did you first discover Court of the Dead?

I discovered Court of the Dead a year ago when I was looking for some cool art, only to find these amazing characters on Google, leading me to your website. And that’s how it began. Then I ordered the Chronicle of the Underworld book, and that was it. The story and characters are amazing. My thanks to Tom, he is great. 🙂

What inspired you to make this haunting music?

My inspiration for my dark tunes come from movies, games and some other characters. I’ve been doing this for over ten years; it’s what I like to do.

What vision did you have when creating the first track?

My vision was dark, haunting, and evil. I pictured Death from the Court of the Dead in my head, sitting on his throne, then Kier with him. That’s how I started to create these dark sounds. I was trying to bring the haunting atmosphere for these tracks with heavy kicks, the chorus from hell, and rhythm. It has to be this dark to match the dark world of Court of the Dead.

What is your process for creating music?

It’s not easy. First, you imagine a character in your head; then you start to produce kick, melody, and everything else. Every track is special to me. It was a lot of deleting and trying again to find and create the perfect sound for a song. That’s it! 🙂

From getting the first idea to publishing the final product, how long does it take to create a soundtrack?

For creating the whole track, it takes a day or maybe two. It depends on how everything is going. For example, when the track is done I listen over and over, and if I hear some “holes” in the song, I fix that and change it; Or put in some new effects or melodies. 🙂

All of your work is very dark and inspired by haunting imagery. Do those images ever haunt you when you create? Or are they solely inspiring?

Good question! 🙂 They are just inspiring; they never haunt me. My creation is me. My sound. My music.

Which Court of the Dead track is your favorite?

It’s hard to say, but some of my favorite tracks are Kier and Ellianastis! 🙂

Which Court of the Dead character is your favorite?

My favorite is Kier. She is amazing!!!!

If you were to create your own CotD character, what faction would they be, and what would their role in the Underworld be?

Nice question! The faction would be Spirit, and it will be a female character to stand by Kier – her right hand! 🙂

And without further ado… the soundtrack:
